Cabo Blanco National Park

The Beginning of Conservation in Costa Rica!!!

Cabo Blanco Absolute Nature reserve was the first National Park established in Costa Rica in 1963, thanks to the dedication of a Swedish couple Karen Mogensen and Olf Wessberg. The land that has previously been farmed was left to return to its natural state for this pioneer project.

This reserve has 1,172 hectares of mixed forest, which is classified as moist tropical forest. In addition to the predominate green species, dry forest species are found as well. Among the most common trees are Espavel, Zapote, Guanacaste, and Pochotes.

On the trails visitors will see numerous species of wildlife, especially the white-face and howler monkeys.
